Foyer Make-over

I have been admiring old windows for quite some time now. I have seen them around on the Internet and in magazines and I ♥ the look of how they are being used as decor in homes now. I knew if I ever found one that I wanted to use it in my foyer hanging over my old "tea cart" table.

My friend, Julie had an old window that she wasn't using. I offered to buy it from her, but we ended up just swapping out the window for me designing some baby shower invitations for a shower she was hosting.

So this past week, we broke out the sander and got busy sanding down this joker. I had all intentions of doing it myself, but Wade took over and started doing it. I ♥ how he likes to jump in and help me with my projects without me asking. We work better as a team anyway! ☺

Sanding down to the original wood so that I can paint. Getting the foyer ready for paint. As usual, I didn't take the "during" pictures.....

Almost finished.....I am loving the new look in my foyer. I told Wade that I wanted a little boldness and color. So that is why I decided on the mustard yellow paint. The wall color is in the neutral family, but it has a warm brownish tint to it. Wade was worried that it was going to be too dark. It is darker than you can tell in the pictures, but once we were finished, we both loved it. I saw the CUTEST (foyer) frame over at Imperfectly Beautiful a while back. Amanda has awesome taste and I love her style. Well, I contacted her and asked her if she would sell me the vinyl cut-out of our last name..you know, since I don't have a Cricut! UGH! Hopefully soon! *Wade, this is a hint, hint for you*. I wanted to do something similar in our foyer as she did.

I found this frame at a yard sale a few weeks ago for $1. I LOVE the detail on this one. I primed it and then spray painted it white. I then brushed on several coats of a smoke glaze and let dry. I then went to Hob Lob to find the perfect scrapbook paper to go in the frame. I fell in LOVE with this paper. I wanted something with a mustard yellow in it to "match" my window pane, but also something that had lots of color in it. I got home and got it framed and then noticed on Amanda's blog that I had purchased the EXACT paper as she used. I didn't even realize this in Hob Lob...Oh well, I LOVE this paper and I don't think she'll mind. ☺ It is SO bright and cheery. I think our last name across this frame will make it all the more perfect! I can't wait to get it in. I found this ceramic apple and pear at a garage sale for $.50 yesterday. I brought them home and gave them a quick coat of primer and then white paint. I added my smoke glaze to finish it off. The pear is on the foyer table and the apple is on the kitchen counter.

We have a few more things to do with the foyer before we are completely finished. I just knew that a quart of paint would be enough for that tiny foyer area, and I refused to listen to my husband...Well, I quickly had to tell him that he was right and I needed more paint. We are pretty much done, but a second coat could be used. :o)

I also have another idea of something I want to add to the window, but it may be a few weeks before I do it.

And then, my picture frame....Once I get the vinyl cut-out and add it to the glass of the frame that will be complete.

So far, I am LOVING my new foyer. Change is so nice! :o)
